Congratulations to the Council Pinewood Derby Racers!
Once again, Pack 416 did well in the Grand Canyon Council race:
- Michael Dankworth, 2nd place Tigers
- William Baldwin, 3rd place Tigers
Each boy won a mountain bike (!) and a trophy, and are qualified to continue on. Way to go, Tigers!
Calling all parents with great ideas!
The Pack Committee meets once a month, usually the Tuesday after the District roundtable meetings. The Committee is the group that runs the Pack, plans fundraisers, decides camping dates and locations, etc etc. If you are a parent who has great ideas for how to improve our meetings, if you're curious about what the Pack is up to, or if you simply want to get involved, please consider joining the Pack Committee. All parents are welcome, and we need you! Committee meeting dates and locations are being posted in the Events section. So far, only May has an official location, but updates for the rest of 2009 will soon be posted.
Congratulations to the District Pinewood Derby Racers!
Our Pack did really well in the Four Peaks District races:
- Landon Hooser, 3rd place Webelos 1
- Michael Dankworth, 1st place Tigers
- William Baldwin, 2nd place Tigers
T-shirts from the District derby will be available at the May 16 Pack meeting.
"Friends of Scouting" needs help
Our district representative gave a talk at our April pack meeting about
Friends of Scouting.
Den leaders and committee members rely on the Grand Canyon Council to help us run the Cub Scout program for your boys. In 2008, the Council will spend over $100 per scout above the fees and local unit expenses to maintain the needed support for the Scouting program. They help us, now we need to help them.
Please consider an
online donation to
Friends of Scouting as a way to continue to support scouting. It's easy, it's the right thing to do, and it's tax deductible!
For those of you who made donations at the Pack meeting, thank you!
Great job, Pack 416!
We collected 1200 pounds of food during Scouting for Food!
"We are excited and honoured to be the recipients of the food collected by our Scouts. It comes at a time when our food pantry is exceptionally busy and donations are especially welcome. Please let the Scouts know how much their efforts mean to us and the poor we serve in our parish. There is great need in our own area. Thank you again for participating in our mission of charity and may God bless you and everyone in Pack 416 in your efforts."
from Scott Fitzgerald, President, St. Joan of Arc Conference, Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
Belt Loops, Patches, & misc.
If you missed the Science Belt loop activity at the Pinewood Derby, you can use these two documents to help your scout earn that belt loop:
Science Belt Loop form and the
Scientific Method poster.
Here is some information on where patches are supposed to go on your
scout's uniform (including those new Centennial Quality Unit patches).
The Grand Canyon Council of the Boy Scouts of America now has an Alumni Association. If you are a former boy scout, or know of one, and you'd like to reconnect with your Scouting past, keep informed on current Boy Scout events, and enjoy opportunities to get re-involved with the same great leadership program, please download the Alumni Association form and join. It's free!
Make summer camp reservations now!
Earn belt loops and get a head start on next year's requirements at one of these District-run camps:
Heard Scout Pueblo offers day camp.
Webelos Weekend is coming at the end of May.
Camp R-C has 4-day camp sessions in June.
Webelos Encampment is a 4-day camp at the end of July.
